Women in Discipleship (sm) Weekly Devotionals 2005
Week 35
Some time it hurts to be a Christian. There are times when, for the sake of Christ, we have to make choices that for the moment are very painful and, by some, misunderstood. God's word is absolute truth and to follow Jesus we will be called to count the cost. We know that the road we travel is narrow and costly. Some even may say that we are narrow minded. Yet when I look into the heart of God's word I see His pure, holy, and merciful face and "joy" floods my heart.
Scripture to ponder: 1 Peter 4:12-13 "Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you, but "rejoice" to the extent that you partake of Christ's suffering, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding "joy." (NKJV)
My choice is clear. I will not compromise the truth of God's word. The Word of God is a holy, living and breathing document of Jesus Christ. No compromising will do! Today to many people are trying to just get along and through this process are watering down this precious document of eternal authority and power.
God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever will not accept any less than His complete Word. Therefore it behooves all of us who love Him to know the doctrine of our faith and hold steadfast to those things that line up with Scripture alone. No more, no less. When we do there is no doubt that persecution, hardships and suffering will occur. But we have the rest of the story. "When His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy." (v.13b)
As the prophet Isaiah of old stated so well: "The LORD will guide you always, He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Isaiah 58:11. Something to think about today!
May prayer is that we will all make "wise choices" for His name sake. Blessings to all of you.
