Weekly Devotionals 2005

Week 44

The Old Testament of Scripture is filled with a required amount of “sacrifices” to bring attention to the need of God. This practice, in part, was to develop a healthy reverence, fear and obedience to the One we worship. Praise would be sounded forth in the sacrifice and when it was concluded.

Scripture to ponder: Hebrews 13:15 “Therefore by Him (Jesus) let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.”

The sad part of the Old Testament sacrifices was that only the priest could offer the sacrifice up to God. The praise for us is that now we have the New Covenant in Jesus Christ and we each are priests (1 Peter 2:59) and can now “praise”, thank, and enjoy God’s presence within us with joyful hearts.

In Isaiah 57:19 we see a companion verse to this passage: “Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says the LORD, “And I will heal him.”

Spiritual blessings flow from the heart who knows, believers, and confesses Jesus as Savior and Lord alone! He created us for His praise and thanksgiving. He desires our worship, reverence and praise.

How are you demonstrating praise and thanksgiving today? Jesus fashioned us to use our voices to honor Him with our lives. Isn’t that exciting and challenging?

I am joyful in Jesus because I am His child. It’s those moments when adversity comes that challenges my witness. Adversity always tries to snatch away the joy. This is the present struggle for me.

Jesus came to heal that struggling spirit and I gladly rejoice in praise and thanksgiving in His victory given to me. My hope is that you do alsoJ

Enjoy the sacrifice of praise in your life this week as you worship and serve Jesus!

Blessings to all,
Sandra Davis for the Women in Discipleship team
