Weekly Devotionals 2006
Week 6
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. 1 John 1: 9-10
Words have such an impact on our world. Did you know that John, in writing this Epistle, used only 350 of the most basic Greek words used in his day?
John's main point in writing his flock of believers was for them to experience the "joy" of their salvation. He knew that the very basis of faith in Jesus begins with confession.
The word "if" is huge here. We need to be willing to confess our sins. We need to admit that we sin. When we do sincerely, He (God) will be delighted to accept our repentance and He will cleanse that sin and make us clean before Him. He will do it dear ones! He has done it! It's His Word and He does it completely!
The next few words drive home the point here! Again "if" we say we haven't sinned we are actually making the accusation to God that the religious leaders made to Jesus on that fateful day some 2000 years ago!
The question is obvious. Is His Word truly in us today? If He lives in us we will be convicted of sin in our lives. The conviction should lead to repentance and in the heart of the repentance we see Jesus saying "you are forgiven" go and sin no more.
Questions to ponder:
How confessed up are you?
Is God's Word moving you forward in true confession?
If so what areas of your life are you seeing Him work in?
With heart confession Jesus increases and our joy in Him is manifested and lived out. In this His Light shines and our testimony grows.
May that be true of each of us this week and always,
Blessings to all,
Sandra Davis for the team
