Women in Discipleship (sm)
Weekly Devotionals 2006
Week Seven

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1 John 2: 1-2

As a mother and grandmother I enjoy the memories of raising my daughter. Now I am enjoying the witness of my daughter raising his little boy and am delighted in the willing participation from time to time of nurturing this precious gift as well.

John writes as if the people in his church are "his dear children." That alone speaks volumes as to his heart attitude toward the people Jesus had entrusted him and his elders with.

As a parent my desire is to teach my child the right way to walk. John used light to explain the pure pathway. When a believer walks in the true light there is one thing that we can count on, the conviction of sin and the need to be pure before a holy God. John shares here our "hope" as Christians.

We are kids of the King. We have been bought with the blood of Christ (1:7) God is faithful and righteous and has forgiven us because of our true confession. Now we just need to stay close to Him in a purifying of His Light. Our walk, words and actions all count and are being examined. We have no need to be fearful because we are secure in Him. There is nothing that can separate us from His love. (Romans 8:31-39)

We can shout for joy because our Advocate to the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous is speaking for us J. He has taken that sin that once separated us from Him and He cleansed us in the Beloved. How awesome this forgiveness is!

Our job today is to not abuse this precious gift of His forgiveness.

Questions to ponder:

What can I do today to not abuse this precious gift of His forgiveness?

How can I demonstrate the awesome gift of forgiveness to my children, grandchildren today?

Jesus offers His gift of forgiveness and salvation to everyone. Is there someone you can share this great news with today?

Let's all be ready to share!
Blessings to all,
Sandra Davis for the team at WinD
