Week 13

 

 

The family is the instrument God uses to share in kingdom building. We each originated from a family. Whether single, married, or in between we each as true believers belong to God’s family. I love that analogy of fellowship in the Beloved.

 

This passage and the verses just before recognize the spiritual family. There are levels of responsibility and growth in this divine family. John shares God’s inspired words here with describing children, young men and fathers.

 

First the children. As children in Christ recognize the importance of recognizing sin, repentance and walking with Jesus each day they become more alive to be witnesses for Him. (v.12) 

 

Fathers are mentioned as a great reminder to us of who the spiritual head of the family is. Whether in the church or the home the father is to be leading and by example sharing in the daily walk of a true believer.

 

Young men are mentioned and the name “overcomer” is given to them. These are the ones who mature in faith and are pursuing righteousness. The world and it’s lusts are not distracting them from their overcoming ways of righteous living. They are exercising faith and are growing strong.

 

Isn’t it a great example for all of us? A healthy family life yields Christian fruit.

 

As children in Christ we began a walk of faith in the basics of Christian doctrine.

Youth is a good thing and the young can be strong in faith to grow in grace as well.

Temptations do come but the overcomer knows Who to run to for armour and protection.

As we mature there are times for looking back and seeing the mighty hand of God leading, preparing, protecting and encouraging us.

 

 

As you have matured in faith what have you seen of God’s power in your early spiritual life that was God leading you?

 

Where are you in your walk of faith? (child, young person, mature person)

 

Let’s keep walking faithfully in the precious Name of Jesus
