Weekly Devotionals 2006
Week 15
“Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him”
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.”
And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.”
Practical application for living is a good thing. Although I shared some time ago that I don’t like tests, I do think they are a necessary part of life.
This passage is a good example of how to live. A testing of genuine faith.
First things first. If we are children of God we walk in the true Light. (John 8:12)
The 1st test here speaks of love. We have discussed this one before. If we abide in Christ we can’t be entrapped in the world and its ideas. This sounds simple but we know it isn’t.
Example: the flesh…we need to see this from God’s eyes. He created the physical world for us to enjoy (original intent). Now He “sees” the unrighteous, the physical world fallen and corrupt. But He also “sees” the righteous ones! The ones He lovesJ
Paul warns us about eyes and flesh in Galatians 5: 19-21. It’s a laundry list of “beware” for the flesh and eyes to steer clear of. Only by Holy Spirit power can we remain pure. We must live by the Standard of the Word of God. It’s a very good thing!
Lastly the boastful pride of life is flagged. It’s a warning! James 4: 16-17 says “but as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil, therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.” The world tries to convince us of its fallen ways, but God’s Word and the Holy Spirit are Light and health to us. The world will be no more and all its evil ways will be destroyed. God always is and we desire to please Him. Abiding is remembering your 1st birthday and the love bestowed upon you by your Savior and Lord. It is something worth pondering.
QUESTIONS TO PONDER
We must protest the “eye gate”. We must flee it’s evil lusts. (2 Timothy 2:22)
The Light of Christ purifies the true believer in the walk of sanctification.
How are you being protected today?
What do you struggle with?
What can you do today to help purify these things?
How is your heart attitude?
We each need a healthy exam regularly to tweek the “abiding in Christ” so that fruitful and productive living can take place. May we do this today.
Blessings from all of us at Women in Discipleship
