Women in Discipleship (sm)
Weekly Devotionals 2006
Week 22
"See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is." 1 John 3:1-2
John is a practical teacher. In the original Greek there were no chapter and verse breakdowns. What do we see following the words: "everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him." (previous verse, last week) Love comes next! Great love of the Father is now bestowed, lavished, poured on you and me! We are now called His children and we areJ.
When I'm in the world doing the daily duties of life there are those who see me and they are uneasy around me. Why? Because they are not children of the Father. They do not understand because they don't know Father! If they would only desire Him?
John experienced this kind of rejection. He knew that we would also. His flock did. It's hard some time to live in the world and not buy into the half-truths, cheating, lying, and backbiting. John wanted to share hope with his flock and with all that would read his writings in the future (you and me). Holding to God's righteousness was and is worth it all.
This portion of Scripture is awesome and filled with future guarantees of blessedness in Christ. What does Jesus know? Everything! When He returns those that are still here will be transformed and will see Him as He is known in heaven. His radiance will be visibly seen! Imagine that! The transfiguration was one amazing event and was seen by the human eyes of the three disciples. This event is not of this world and will require transformation to take place. How exciting this event will be. We may be the very ones that He will reveal Himself to. Can you even imagine? We all have so much to look forward to!
