Week 37
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
1John 4: 7-8
I was reading an article in a Christian magazine recently regarding forgiveness and love. The article written was about a lady who while driving on an interstate was struck by a brick into her windshield. She lost most of her teeth and her jaw was broken. She needed numerous surgeries. The 20 year old boy had thrown a brick from an overpass, was caught, arrested and was in the sentencing phase of his trial. The lady testified: “I choose to forgive this young man and ask respectfully that he not be punished.” She spoke to him and shared that her Christian faith compels her to forgive him and encourage him to not do this again. This true story is so similar to the word of Jesus: “Love your enemies.”
John speaks forth a real truth. True love is born of God. It’s more than a quick fix, fleshly or superficial. It’s hard word and part of the “narrow way.” The world says: “Get even, curse, sue, pay back with evil.” That is the wide way and how the world responds and it is natural in them.
Let’s seek to love like Jesus has shown us. Just maybe the world will be a better place. May our genuine “love” shine forth today through the power of the Holy Spirit!
Questions to Ponder
How is true love being demonstrated in your life today?
Is there evidence of your “born of God love?”
It is so refreshing to know that this love can be manifested through us by the Holy Spirit. May we be willing.
Blessings to each of you,
