Weekly Devotionals 2006
Week 39
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has beheld God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.”
1 John 4:11-12
By now we should all be aware of John’s heart for his flock, the Church. We saw last week again how significant God’s amazing love is. He spared nothing - including His only Begotten Son to gain our freedom from the penalty of sin. That is what true love is all about. With this reminder comes the challenge. “We ought to love one another.”
This task is not always an easy one. It is something that takes Holy Spirit power (v.13-next week). In modeling this the world will see something holy…God’s love working through us.
No one has seen God at any time. Brief glimpses have come to a very few. (Moses) To see God would require supernatural eyesight! So for today to see God in the world means that it is up to us and our demonstration of His love toward other for Him to be seen.
The love of God is within us through the power of Christ and the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It’s our job to demonstrate His love in an unlovely world. In so doing this supernatural love is being perfected in us! How amazing this transformation can be if we only would demonstrate it to everyone.
Questions to ponder
What needs to be forgiven today so that love can become genuine in your life?
How can you step toward perfecting love in your heart toward someone else today?
If we each took a step of faith to reconcile with someone who has hurt us just maybe the world would recognize His amazing love being poured out in our lives.
Ask Him to strengthen you in active love this week.
