Week 40

“By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit and we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.”

When John began this Epistle (letter) he specifically gave testimony to what he saw, beheld and heard about Jesus Christ. In this passage John reminds us of his opening statement. (1 John 1:1) John knew that the Holy Spirit was within him. He was there at Pentecost. He experienced this supernatural promise come true from Christ Jesus. (John 15: 26-27)

“We know” that we have His Spirit by this same testimony of our lives. John will spell out the testimony in verse 14. From examining an earlier passage (4:2) we see the true confession: “Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.” Verse 14 states: “And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.”

John heard God’s voice: “Thou art my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11) His confident confession brings back to us a reminder of our confession of faith. This eyewitness is telling us the truth that Jesus is the Living Son of God made flesh. We know because he saw and testifies to us.

Questions to Ponder:
Do you know the “True Jesus?”
If someone came to your door sharing a gospel that sounded good would you know the right questions to ask regarding the “true Jesus” to verify that they are truly accurate?
Would you know how to accurately handle the “Word of Truth?” (2 Timothy 2:15)
The Holy Spirit will not hound you into truth seeking but He will prompt you to search the Scripture! Are you listening?

May we each be found faithful,
Blessings to all,
Sandra Davis for the team
