Week 43
"We love because He first loved us. If someone says 'I love God', and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also." 1 John 4: 19-21
Verse 19 of 1 John is a profound statement. It humbles me when I am struggling to love the unlovely among us. It is also very convicting! It's a commandment!
The word brother in this passage is referring to the Christian community. If we don’t first love God and those others who also love God then the question is am I truly a believer? Even the heathen love there own!
In this passage we see a summary statement for Chapter 4 of 1 John. The test is "true love". If there is genuine love than health is also evident in the believer and the fellowship. Only liars fear and hate and are judged!
This love that is addressed is very powerful indeed. Consider this love also in the broader context of all people…Christian and none! This is also implied!
Strong words are used here to summarize the truth about the true believer. We all know that in the flesh dwelleth no good thing! Therefore Jesus made a way for us by His shed blood and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Love is the test and it's clear, profound and accurate!
Questions to Ponder:
Do you pass the test of true love?
How can you resolve issues that may be hindering fellowship with others and the Lord?
It's work to live as Jesus taught but it's worth it!
After all He first loved us!
May we appreciate this generous Love that the Father has bestowed upon us through Christ Jesus our Lord!
Have a loving week dear ones,
