Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms
January - Week Three
Weekly Reading: Psalm 4
In peace I will both lie down and sleep. For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety. - Psalm 4:8
This Psalm begins with instructions for the worship leader. It is one of 55 assignments to the Director, and stringed instruments would have been used in this worship Psalm.
We pick up David’s lament from Psalm 3 in this musical arrangement.
In the body of this Psalm, we see prayer to God for David’s very existence. David was addressing the sin of his enemies and a desire for full repentance as well.
(v. 2-5)
Yet in his distress, David could sleep in peace! This is a significant life lesson. Do you remember when Jesus slept in the boat during the storm? (Matthew 8:23-27)
David had peace because his confidence was in the “Prince of Peace”! (John 10:30) He knew that the Lord was his shield and his protector. He had witnessed this protection before! He dwelt in safety because he “trusted” his Lord with his life!
How trusting are we when we walk through the challenges of life? David received a good night’s sleep because he trusted his life to the One who created him!
Worship flows from a trusting heart. May we each walk with trust in Christ today.
