Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms Weekly Reading: Psalm 7 I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. - Psalm 7:17
David was a passionate man. This Psalm was sung with passion. One thing you will observe as you read Psalm 7: David had enemies, and they were real!!! Cush, a Benjamite, was out to get him. David cries out to the LORD. His first request of God was, “If I have done injustice, than bring destruction upon me”. He desired purity before God and man.
David is accurate in his prayer. With a clean conscience, David continues his prayer of deliverance: Vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me (v.8b). My shield is with God, who saves the upright (v.10), and finally, If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword (v.12a).
Sober thoughts for all of us! David desired purity and trusted God for vindication. May we be as passionate in our daily lives to do a healthy self exam and live righteous before holy God.
