Prayer to the Lord is one way of demonstrating faith in action. Having a heart felt talk with the Lord is healthy for the Christian.

 

In Psalm 13, we can enter the Prayer Closet of David and actually listen in to his cry before the Lord. David begins with: How long, O Lord,  and asks (4) four how long questions of the LORD! He then pleads: Consider and answer me, O LORD my God  (v.3). He expected, desired, and longed for God to answer him.

 

David also tells his LORD the outcome of his prayer if God chooses to not pull him out of his trouble (see verses 3b and 4).

 

The mood then changes for David in his prayer. His heart is at peace. Why? He has taken his requests to God, laid them down, and sees God’s goodness! He can now focus on God’s love and salvation given to him. He begins his prayer with How long?. He ends with singing to the LORD! This is the key to understanding why David was a man after God’s own heart.
