"I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good besides You’." Psalm 16:2
I find it encouraging and helpful when I read passages of Scripture that confirm prophecy. David was significantly in the lineage to the fulfillment of Messiah. He even spoke words that later became evident in the crucifixion and resurrection of his future family member, Jesus Christ. (v.10)
This Psalm is so special for many reasons. It is worth a long and thoughtful meditation.
David knew that his worth was not in the here and now. His worth was found in the LORD alone! All of David’s possessions were nothing. This speaks volumes, because He was very wealthy and powerful. He calls those who truly know God Saints, Majestic Ones (v. 3)!! How profound is this statement.
The LORD was his portion and his inheritance. Can we say that? His heart was right before God. Why do I say that? Let’s read David’s words: The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me (v.6). He knew that this world was not his home. Heaven was his home, and the LORD was His God! He enjoyed the worship of God in his life, and his lines were drawn in a pleasant place, secure in his salvation.
May David’s words be true of us. May our heritage be beautiful, as well. Jesus reigns; may we enjoy His victory in our lives today. Remember you are a Saint, a Majestic One !!!
