Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms

May - Week 19
Weekly Reading:  Psalm 21

"Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and Thou hast not withheld the request of his lips. Selah." Psalm 21:2

Psalm 20 (see last week’s devotional) was a worship ceremony before the ravages of battle that David was about to face. His request was bold, honoring to God, and filled with God confidence as seen in verse 8.

Psalm 21 comes after the victory has been won over his enemies. David runs back to the LORD in thanksgiving and acknowledges God’s victory for him and his army!

David, a king and General of the army, recognized WHO the Commander In Chief is: God Almighty! Your hand will find your enemies, Your right hand will find those who hate you. (v. 8) David knew that the enemy was not his, but God’s and that Almighty God would route out His enemies. David desired closeness to his God, thus his heart to pray, praise, and thank God throughout his life. It was not a pretty life, but David recognized and repented of sin, and he trusted God for his forgiveness and very existence.

David speaks, for the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the Most High he  (David) shall not be moved. (v. 7)

This acknowledgement is meant for all of us who believe and walk in the Light of God’s protection and guidance. May we each be found faithful to walk each day in God’s confidence as David did!

Victorious in Christ alone,
