Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms

May - Week 20
Weekly Reading:  Psalm 22

"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Psalm 22:1a

Amazing words are quoted here by David during a season of immense hardship. This Psalm is truly prophetic. All 31 verses reveal the Messianic lineage that was revealed through Jesus Christ.

David penned these words, and Christ Jesus would speak them some 1000 years later. This Psalm, called by some in the early church “the 5th Gospel”, is powerful indeed.

(The description of Jesus’ crucifixion experience is evident in verses 7, 8, and 14 to 18. Take time to read this account, being reminded that these words were written by David before Christ was born.)

David comes out of his pit of despair in verse 22: I will declare Your Name to my brethren, in the midst of the assembly I will praise You…Praise Him...Glorify Him…He is not despised, let your heart live forever. His mourning had now turned to exuberance and hope.

David closes this amazing Psalm with more end time prophecy: All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. (v. 27) How powerful God’s Word is! We have confidence in this wonderfully inspired Holy Word!

As you diligently study, worship, weep, and praise God, remember He has, is, and will accomplish through you His purposes, if you are willing and walk in His ways! Wow! How wonderful is that?!

Willingly,
