"To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; let me not be ashamed; let not my enemies triumph over me." Psalm 25:1
From extreme worship last week to a plea for deliverance and forgiveness this week …stretches the sea of life expressions I’d say! David knew both extremes, as we will continue to discover and appreciate about him.
As a child, I attended a church where this passage was sung regularly. It is a good reminder for us of our testimony for Christ.
Asking the LORD to show us His ways, His path leading to His truth, and being teachable all point to a humble heart, ready for His word to guide us. (v. 4-5)
Pleading for His mercy and love, and seeking forgiveness of sins also represent a heart healthy person and one who is teachable as well (v. 7). Good reminders for all of us!
As humble students guided by a just God, we are able to see His truth. The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him and He will show them His covenant.
(v. 14) With a healthy fear of our holy God, purity and desire to see God working will be amazing even in extreme hardship. Like David, we too can proclaim: Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You. (v. 20-21) May we each be willing to wait on the Lord in our daily activities and those things that are very hard for us to see right now!
May our total trust be in Him alone!
