During this season of the year, we see many signs of the power of our Creator God. Living in the "Lightning Capital of the World" (Florida), I have witnessed the awesome power of nature move across the sky with instantaneous orchestration and wonder.
The Psalmist (David) must have had similar eyewitness accounts and historical facts to have penned this hymn of God's Supremacy over heaven, nature and humanity.
1) Heaven is the dwelling place of God. There His glory and holiness is displayed (Isaiah 6:1-7). He dwells there, and we will one day be amongst His chosen ones in this awesome Presence! (verses 1-2)
2) The Lord's supremacy over nature is seen in verses 3-9. Thunder, water surges, trees cracking, animals in travail, and fire all represent natural "acts of God" experienced in the fallen world. (We can see this on the Weather Channel every day.)
3) And lastly, we see God reign over humanity. David is reminded of the world wide flood of Noah's day. He is confident of God's strength and peace, because he has seen God's faithfulness.
