I challenge you today to read this Psalm. In it are all the elements of personal and public anguish and assurance of true faith in the sufficiency of God for us.
David specifically and boldly requested of God His divine help in severe trouble. He addresses his need, much like his Psalm 23 prayer, but with more specifics. David was hurt by those who alienated themselves from him. He hated the idolatry of his day (Psalm139:21)! His description of his spiritual body decay (verses 9-10), most likely using physical analogy, leads to his sorrow, despair and reproach.
Then the divine restoration commences for David's heart. Verses 19-24 tell the "rest of the story." God is full of goodness (v.19). His loving kindness (v.21) is continual and the only hope is in the LORD! Isn’t that true of us today as well?
God's Word is strength to our bones and health to our body, mind and spirit.
Like David, may we be "strong and let our hearts take courage…our hope is in the Lord." (paraphrased from v.24)
