Psalms 32 and 51 contain essential truth in the life of a "true believer." Why? Without repentance there can be no forgiveness of sins. (1 John 1:9)

 

David was silent about his sin for a season. The sin caused a wasting away of his fellowship with God. Sin brings oppression, especially to the Believer. Confession is indeed good for the soul! House cleaning of sin is a must! Jesus died that we might live. He said: "This is my blood of the Covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." Matthew 26:28.

 

These two Psalms remind us that true confession must be a part of our life lived before Holy God, first in salvation, and then in sanctification (life lived in fellowship with God). David was given forgiveness by God. He would suffer consequences just as we do. He was restored to full fellowship with God when he confessed. He could ask with confidence "restore for me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit." (Psalm 51:12) David's broken spirit led to a cleansing and a contrite heart before holy God. May we be readily willing to seek forgiveness with a pure heart confession, and not a "ritual" condition. This is food for thought for all of us today.

 

May David's lived example be ours as well, in true confession before holy God.
