Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms
July - Week 31
Weekly Reading: Psalm 38 and 143

Psalm 38:18 "Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground." Psalm 143:10
We continue this week to look at the last two Davidic Penitential hymns. In Psalm 38, David continues to pour his heart out to God in sorrow over sin within and for divine intervention in the attack of his enemies without.
Sin can estrange a person from those closest to one’s heart. David knew that sin could cause extreme health issues. He also knew that the sins of others upon him hurt in extreme measure.
In Psalm 38, David repents and runs to the LORD for hope (v.15). God answers his heart pleadings. He took seriously his confession (v.18)!
In Psalm 143, David acknowledges clearly that "For in Your sight no man living is righteous" (v.2b). It would be God's righteousness that would deliver him.
Revival can only come with true repentance. For us, like David, the same is true. Turning from sin takes God's power over me and God's mercy on me. The LORD longs to revive us. He is our Shelter, Teacher, and Leader (v. 143:9-10).
