Silence is a key to this litany. Like Job, no words were spoken for a time. Accusations and sorrow mixed for a time of true sorrow.

 

David asks the LORD to reveal his end (v.4). He recognized the frail state of the human condition. Life is indeed frail, like a vapor, and David knew this. Then something occurs to David. "And now LORD, what do I wait for? My hope is in You!"

 

When all the money is made and spent, all the jobs are done, and all the wealth of this world is complete, what then? David's sojourn was this life. His eternal future was his Lord, and the only thing that he desired was to have fellowship with the eternal Lord of all! May this be our desire as well. This life is indeed a sojourn. We have work to do, but the rest of the story is life eternal with the Lord.
