Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms
August - Week 33
"Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies." Psalm 40:4
Life has its ups and downs. One day things appear normal (whatever that means), and the next day is anything but normal. In the fray of life we need that "Rock" of hope that consistently encourages our daily walk in Christ.
David penned this Psalm of worship. He documents his faith walk in the LORD in times of despair and times of abundance.
"He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the LORD!" (v.3) Did you notice the reference? We are included in this verse. We have great reason to sing!
Sacrifices and offerings were not the main worship point in David's life (v.6). He knew that the heart (Spiritually speaking) was the focal point. He knew that God sees this first and always (v.6-8). David wasn't afraid to share this truth (v.9). He also was quite willing to ask the LORD for favor because of his willing and bold testimony. Yes, much evil did come against David. Some came because of sin, but much because of his bold testimony of faith in the One True God. How is our witness in the world today?
"Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually, ‘The LORD be magnified’ ”. (v.16) In our seeking of Christ, may we also have boldness to speak forth the truth in love to a needy world!
