August - Week 34
"The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed" Psalm 41:3
Sickness comes in many forms. David was no stranger to such a sick bed! Whether from sin or disease, the sufferings of life are real.
This Psalm by David addresses the pains of life. From verse 3, we get an indication of who David runs to for healing. The Great Physician is always tender, loving, and merciful in our "critical cares" of life. David was wise to run to the Lord for healing.
Two significant verses reveal the desire of David to recognize his: 1. sinful state (v.4), and 2. the sorrow of those who look for ways to cast evil upon his life (v.5). He knew that the Physician of his heart would take care of all his needs (v.11-12), and that the compassion of the LORD is eternal (v.13).
It's a blessing indeed to read these verses and see the tenderness of our LORD as the Great Physician delivering healing and hope to David's heart in the "down cast" times of his life. Always the Lord is preserving and strengthening those who are on their "bed of illness" (v.3b). This Psalm is worthy of meditation, especially in the "sickbed" of life.
May we all run to the Lord to sustain us every day.
