"Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You." Psalm 56:3
Again we read a Psalm of prayerful anguish and heartfelt conversation with God at the core of David's trouble. I find myself pondering the moments when David actually penned these verses. He is being pursued by Saul; flees to Philistia, and the king there questions him; he fakes insanity and then hides in a cave in Adullam (1 Samuel 21:10-15). With this historical narrative in mind, re-read the Psalm and see the significance of David's hope "When I am afraid I will trust in You." "In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (v3,11). David was fearful. He was running from danger for years. His wanderings and tears were noted by God (Malachi 3:16). He had reason to cry, yet he also had hope because God had promised him deliverance (1 Samuel 16). Our lives may not be as dramatic as David's, but we continually are being hit by "twisted words, evil intents, persecutions of various kinds." What we choose to do about them will determine our testimony and witness for Christ. May we choose: "In God I have put my trust." Blessings dear ones, Sandra Davis Director for Women in Discipleship
