These two Psalms are linked to the time in David's reign when his son Absalom drove him away from his home in Israel, and then later (Psalm 62) when perhaps Absalom's treason forces God's actions to take place righting the wrong and removing the evil. "You shall be slain, all of you." (Psalm 62:3b)
 
David leaned on the Rock that "is higher than I." (Psalm 61:2c) David remembers who his God is: "For You have been a shelter for me, A Strong Tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings." (Psalm 61:3-4) David's prayer is a confident assurance of God's overwhelming power of eternal protection. We likewise can pray to our Divine Protector just like David. We can also walk in confidence even when others try to betray us, defame us, cause us to doubt our call, or just try to wear us down. God's word tells us: "Trust in Him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before Him; God is a Refuge for us." (Psalm 62:8) These are the words for life. May we live as David did in the "shelter of Your wings!"
