Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms
November - Week 45
"Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; Preserve my life from fear of the enemy." Psalm 64:1
"O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come." Psalm 65:2
As I read David's words to God, I recognize some similar prayers and meditations that I have spoken to God as well. This couplet of Psalms reminds my heart of intimate prayer times and supplications in my own prayer life experiences with God.
Psalm 64 begins with the above quote. Verses 2-9 then speak to the need for God to protect David from his enemies. “Hide me from the secret plot”; those who lay snares secretly; shrewd schemes and bitter words all speak to his present distresses and past hurts. David needed God's protection and he spoke with God continually about the threats to him and his kingdom. We see how God indeed took care of David and how sensitive he was to God's reproof, watch-care and protection.
In verse 7, David is confident of God's answer to evil men. He describes God's actions with specific results. These words bring David encouragement, because he has seen God's holy, righteous wrath revealed on his enemies. David also is fully trusting of his Creator God. In Psalm 65, he describes the Creator in communion with the creation. David first confirms God's listening ear (v.2), and then he writes a beautiful song filled with the beauty of God who loves to take care of His creation in wonder and loveliness. How blessed we are every day to wake up to His splendor around us. Do you see it?
Rejoicing in the Creator God,
