November - Week 47
"But as for me, my prayer is to Thee, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, answer me with Thy saving truth." Psalm 69:13
All through David's life there were seasons of calm and seasons of despair. He was a mighty king, but he also suffered mighty defeats of soul and safety. This Psalm speaks to a variety of wows. His experience at the point of this writing was of sinking mire and a parched heart cry! He knew God well. He was aware that God knew his inner sins and anxious concerns. He speaks: "May those who wait for Thee not be ashamed through me, O LORD God of hosts." (v.6a) He really did not want to harm his testimony of God in his life. This is a powerful life lesson for all of us! David states words Jesus would later state regarding Himself and His Father. (See John 2:15 and Romans 15:3.) Then David prays specifically (verse 13). He acknowledges God's love, power, compassion and knowledge. He shares with God the reproach that has broken his heart. David is not afraid to ask God to deal with the adversary. He empties the contempt for them to God, and then moves forward to worship, praise and assurance that God indeed hears his prayers. (v.30 and 33) May our prayers be filled with heart earnestness like that of David! Sandra Davis Director for Women in Discipleship
