Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotionals for 2007 – The Psalms

December - Week 50
Weekly Reading:  Psalm 109
(Go to www.BibleGateway.com for complete text)

"O God of my praise, Do not be silent.Psalm 109

As we wrap up a year of Psalms written by David, we come to a Psalm where David requests of God "vengeance upon his adversaries." Though this request is not a new one, I find that these Psalms come with a clearer understanding of just how dependant on God David was for his vindication. This Psalm’s 31 verses include a variety of requests by David, specifically to God about his heart hurt toward those who were his enemies. It is interesting to see that, though these requests from David are genuine, David is placing his full trust in God's discipline upon those who were against him. A life lesson for all of us.

There are five verses out of the 31, where David affirms his hope and assurance of vindication upon God his King. The first one is our weekly verse above. Next is verse 24 which states: "But Thou, O God, the Lord, deal kindly with me for Thy name's sake; Because Thy lovingkindness is good, deliver me." Verse 26 reads: "Help me, O Lord my God; Save me according to Thy lovingkindness." And again in verse 30 we see: "With my mouth, I will give thanks abundantly to the LORD; And in the midst of many I will praise Him." Finally in verse 31 we read: "For He stands at the right hand of the needy, To save him from those who judge his soul." David was needy, and he was not ashamed to state this to His God and Lord. May we be as willing to do the same today even in the midst of the busyness of the season.

Help us, Lord, to be truthful, without wavering in our testimony for You…with grateful hearts and joyful lives today. Amen!
