WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
January - Week 3: Grace is a word that is used in a variety of ways. It can be a name; it is sometimes referred to as the prayer before a meal; or it can describe someone’s manner or appearance. What does it really mean in the life of a Believer in Jesus Christ? In the New Testament, this word grace is “charis” (#5485). It can mean:
joy, favor, acceptance, a kindness granted or desired, a benefit, thanks, gratitude, a favor done without expectation of return, absolute freeness of the lovingkindness of God to men finding its only motive in the bounty and freeheartedness of the giver, unearned and unmerited favor. “Charis” is the opposite of "erga," which means: works. (Lexicon, pp.1887-1887)
This concept of grace and the One who lavished it on us, will be the focus for this year. We will rejoice, pray, and thank our gracious God for His complete work on our behalf. We will sing, meditate, and worship in loving communion with the Lord God Almighty, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as we offer Him our spiritual service of worship (Rom. 12:1) PRAYER AND APPLICATION: “Holy Father, as I open your Word, fill me with reverence and awe for you. I pray this in confidence, by the power of your Holy Spirit, because of King Jesus, my Savior. Amen.” As I prayerfully study and apply God’s word to my life this week, upon whom can I shine forth God’s Grace? Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship
