WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
February - Week 4:
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. (Rom. 12:1)
Paul urged the Roman Believers to present themselves to God, so they could experience the joy of living in the light of Christ. This theme runs through the Epistles with the writings of all the Apostles. The writer of Hebrews said to continually offer praise to God, with thanksgiving. How can we live a life of continual praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God? We cannot! But Jesus can through us. Galatians 2:20 says
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
Offering spiritual service of worship to God is possible because of Jesus' life within us. We live by faith every day, understanding that on our own we are unable to appropriately worship God. However, by faith we can allow the life of Christ to live through us in every area. APPLICATION: Think about the different areas of your life. Where am I trying to serve God in my own strength? Yield those areas to Christ, and ask Him to strengthen your faith in His life, living in you, by His grace. This is a meaty subject and worth exploring with the help of our loving Father.
