WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
June - Week 4:
Today we'll look at the Greek word "chairo" (#5463):
meaning rejoice and sometimes translated "grace."
As joy is a direct result of God's grace, we now see a verb meaning grace! It can be described as the skipping and frisking of a lamb for joy. What a lovely word picture this is for rejoicing. (Lexicon, p.1886)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Philippians 4:4 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; Not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. Romans 12:9-13
We have many reasons to rejoice. We are commanded to rejoice always, even in trials, hardships, and persecution. Rejoicing comes from having a right focus. It is a choice we make, and through rejoicing we are blessed.
APPLICATION: Evaluate my present level of rejoicing:
- Am I purposeful in rejoicing, or does it only happen on occasion?
- What can I do to make rejoicing a more consistent and natural part of my life, regardless of my circumstances?
May our testimony reflect praise and may we rejoice always in Him! Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship
