WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
July - Week 4: Meditation should be a way of life for Believers. If we desire peace and want to demonstrate the joy of Jesus in our lives, then we need to take time to meditate and reflect on who God is, what He has done, and what He has said.
Psalm 119:16 states:
With all my heart I have sought you. (v.10) I will meditate on your precepts. (v.15) I shall delight in your statutes. (v.16)
He considered it a joy and privilege to seek God and meditate on His Word. There is a spiritual conversation going on as you meditate on God's Word. You are developing your inner life when you focus on the Lord. As you think about God, wait for Him to reveal Himself to you. He may show you something about His word, His works, or the victories He has given to you. He can encourage you with positive thoughts about yourself or someone close to you. Biblical meditation doesn’t mean emptying your mind. It means focusing your mind on God so you can hear and respond to Him.
APPLICATION: Philippians 4:8 (NLT) gives us a wonderful pattern of thought upon which to meditate:
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
As I take time right now to meditate on God, using this verse to guide me, what thoughts can I write down? Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship
