WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
August - Week 3:
During the next number of weeks we will be looking at another aspect of our Walk of Grace: Intercession for others.
As we consider the vast importance of intercessory prayer, let's remember Jesus and His great example as our Intercessor.
As we consider intercession, keep your heart open for the Holy Spirit to guide you through His Word. Keep in mind also God's plan for each believer to be actively involved in the ministry of intercession. When we intercede for others, we are actively participating in God's work in their lives.
Moses was an intercessor for the nation of Israel. From Exodus 32:6-14, the LORD tells Moses just how corrupt the children of Israel were behaving, and His thoughts regarding destroying them because of their corruption and idolatry. Moses pleads for his countrymen. He reminds the LORD about the miracles of the recent past, and how these proved that He is the God of the Israelites. Moses had courage to ask God for forgiveness of the people. The Israelites were a terrible people to lead. Yet, Moses compassionately interceded for them time and again, because his focus was on God's glory, not on himself or the people.
The LORD states some favorable encouragement to Moses:
The LORD replied to Moses, 'I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.' (Exodus 32:17)
The LORD replied, 'I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest - everything will be fine for you. (Exodus 32:14)
APPLICATION: Have I ever been called upon to intercede for someone I felt was "unworthy" of my prayers? Was I able to do it willingly out of a desire for God's glory, as Moses did? Intercession is a necessary part of our daily life in Christian service and worship! Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship
