WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
September - Week 2: I heard a true story about a housekeeper who loved the Lord. The woman she worked for had all the wealth, fame, and glamour anyone could possess, yet she felt hopeless. Her housekeeper, who had been with her a very long time, spoke these simple words to her:
"Make your heart a manger and let Jesus be born in it."
Immediately after she spoke the words, she was fired. However, the wealthy woman could not stop thinking about what she had heard. As she prepared to go to bed that night, she was so convicted by these words that she fell to her knees and gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ. A new birth took place. The housekeeper knew Jesus and spoke His love to the wealthy woman. She was a bold witness for Jesus who heard her heart cry for this worldly woman. Jesus was the one who did the saving. The housekeeper was just the conduit for His amazing grace. The next day the lady rehired her faithful housekeeper, and the grace of God was displayed once again. There are a number of examples of intercessory prayer in the New Testament. Paul's prayer for the Ephesians is a great example for us. From chapter 1:16-23, we see him giving thanks for the brethren, asking for wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God toward them, knowing the hope of their calling and the rich inheritance that was theirs in Christ Jesus.
APPLICATION:
Are these the things for which I ask the Father in my intercession for others?
How exciting to ask such things for those we love and care about. Jesus hears and desires to complete His work in those who will respond.
