WALK OF GRACE - My Spiritual Service of Worship
(Taken from the Walk of Grace Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
December - Week 1:
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. (Romans 12:1)
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Over the course of these Devotionals, our goal has been God Himself! We have seen the majesty and glory of the Lord and witnessed the testimonies of Believers in the Bible. We are lavished with a love that is perfect in Jesus Christ, and we have access to Him because of His Gift of life to us. During the final weeks of this month we will conclude our study by returning to the word that began it all: GRACE We have seen that the word charis, in the New Testament, is translated grace, which means unearned, unmerited favor with God. As human beings, we think we have to work to earn a reward. Accepting the free gift of salvation in Jesus, without any work on our part, is hard for many people to do. God gave His only Son as the atonement for our sin. All we need to do is accept this magnificent FREE GIFT! The purpose of mankind is to glorify God and fellowship with Him. This is possible only through Jesus Christ. A thankful heart recognizes sin, and in surrender and faith accepts the generous gift of Jesus as payment for sin. Gratitude is the overflow of this heart transplant through faith in Jesus Christ!
APPLICATION:
When I am given a gift, how do I receive it? Do I feel like I have to do something in return to earn it? Or do I accept it as it is: a gift given by grace? As we prepare for the Christmas holidays and gift-giving, let's not forget the Perfect Gift given from above: JESUS! Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship
