TO BEAR HIS NAME - Weekly Insights into the Names of God
(Taken from the To Bear HIs Name Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
January - Week 1: This year we will be studying the Names of God, and as we do so, it is my desire that your heart will be enriched by the amazing glory and majesty of the One who has rescued us from sin and transformed us into a household of faith through Jesus our Lord and Savior.
Since the beginning of time, one thing has always separated us from the rest of creation -- mankind. Man was created by God and is useful and pleasurable to Him. Our personal name is what gives each of us distinction from another. The study of God’s names holds extreme value and develops worship in those who would desire to Bear His Name in this world.
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them ... In the beginning God. Genesis 1:27 and 1:1
Ancient manuscripts are filled with names, records, and places. Bible names most always have a blueprint of some historical action, covenant, record, or prophecy. So it is with God’s names. As we will see this year, they have significant distinction and application for our lives.
The LORD the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Exodus 3:18b
APPLICATION:
Am I willing to see my God more clearly, reverence Him more dearly, and worship Him with humility and love? Do I want to bring honor to His name?
As we look into the Names of God this year, let us pray that He will work in our hearts and minds to better understand and know Him personally. Sandra Davis, for the team at Women in Discipleship (sm)
