TO BEAR HIS NAME - Weekly Insights into the Names of God
(Taken from the To Bear HIs Name Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
EL ROI
In the Book of Samuel we see another incident where El Roi, the GOD WHO SEES, is revealed. Samuel obeyed God and went to Bethlehem, to the house of Jesse, to anoint a new king-elect for Israel. From 1 Samuel 16, we begin to see the great depth and height and length and breadth of the El Roi whom we worship. We may look with eyes of human sight, but we find that El Roi sees the heart.
When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the LORD'S anointed is before Him.’ But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees (El Roi) not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:6-7
David would become king of Israel just as El Roi God intended. El Roi sees the unseen and knows all things. His eye is in full focus, never deceived or misguided. He has a sight that is not of this world, and is much more than can be perceived, imagined, or understood. We see in a time continuum; He does not. He sees the "Whole" right now; and now is yesterday, today and forever to Him! The eyes of the LORD is a phrase often seen in Scripture.
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. Genesis 6:8
He will do the same for us, when we call out to Him in our deepest need.
APPLICATION:
- What does El Roi see in me today?
- Write out Psalm 119:10-12 and put it in a prominent place where you can meditate on it during the week.
I would love to hear how God used these verses to bless you. Email me and let me know.
