TO BEAR HIS NAME - Weekly Insights into the Names of God
(Taken from the To Bear HIs Name Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)
El Shaddai
In keeping with the meaning of El Shaddai, as God Almighty, having integrity, we see that He revealed Himself as a Covenant-Making God to Abram. And in Genesis 28, El Shaddai revealed Himself to another patriarch, Isaac. Isaac would become the chosen child of Abraham and Sarah. Later, he married and had twin sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob would be the chosen child to carry on the Covenant promise. In Genesis 28:3, we see that Isaac sent his son away with a blessing in the name of God Almighty (El Shaddai):
May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of people. May He also give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and your descendants with you… Genesis 28:3-4a
APPLICATION:
- Abram had to wait many years before God fulfilled His promise to him regarding giving him a son. What is something that I have been praying for that is making me wait for God’s answer?
- Have I been praying for my own benefit, or am I praying for God’s benefit?
- This week, am I willing to give all of me (body, soul, spirit) to God for His purposes?
