TO BEAR HIS NAME -
Weekly Insights into the Names of God
(Taken from the To Bear HIs Name Study by Sandra J. Mikler Davis)

El Shaddai

There was something unique and special regarding the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel).
With these men, God Almighty was the chosen name of reverence.
In each instance, God Almighty poured forth His Covenant plan for the nation of Israel.
He also spoke with authority and power.

When Moses came on the scene, there was a shift in name usage.
Moses was introduced to YHWH (Jehovah) (I AM).
At this point, the nation of Israel called upon Jehovah, His Personal Name!

God spoke further to Moses and said to him,
‘I am the LORD (Jehovah);
and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
as God Almighty (El Shaddai),
but by My name, LORD, I did not make Myself known to them.
I also established My covenant with them
to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they sojourned.’
Exodus 6:2-4

Our El Shaddai, the God Almighty, is the One who blesses us with blessings too wonderful for explanation. We are called sons and daughters of the Father, because of the great kindness, and mercy, and love of the Father toward all those who call upon the name of His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord.

APPLICATION
:

  • What have I specifically seen of El Shaddai in my life in the form of blessings?
  • Have I been taking for granted the air I breathe, the food I eat, the clothes I wear, the home I live in, the Word of God I read, His creation around me?
  • As far back as you can go, write down all those in your family who were Believers in Jesus Christ. Then take time to thank God for their influence upon you.
