Jehovah Tsidkenu - The LORD Our Righteousness
There are many uses of the word Righteousness in prophecy in the Old Testament. Fulfillment of prophecy through the Righteous One is specifically encouraging. In the Book of Isaiah we see references of the prophetic teaching of the Messiah:
Declare and set forth your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; there is none except Me. Isaiah 45:2
A prophecy that speaks of the LORD our Righteousness is found in the Book of Jeremiah. This prophecy is spoken often at Christmas to usher in the birth of Jesus, the Son of Righteousness. It is abundantly clear that the Messiah would come through the line of David, and He indeed would be a Righteous Branch. We see His story revealed in the Gospel accounts.
Behold, the days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and Righteousness in the land…’ Jeremiah 23:5
APPLICATION:
- According to Isaiah 45:21, who is the only God we are to worship?
- Since Righteousness means perfection, why is it significant that Jesus is called the Righteous Branch in Jeremiah 23:5?
- If Jehovah God is the One True God, how am I growing in my relationship with Him today?
