JEHOVAH SHALOM - Week Three
Many passages in the Bible show that Jehovah Shalom is a covenant keeping God.
In the Old Testament there are over 20 different references to covenants that the LORD has made to His people. In examining all the covenants, it is clear that “peace” is included and foremost in each one.
From the meaning of the word, we can see how careful the LORD is in keeping His people safe, healthy, whole, in harmony, and how He keeps our well-being foremost in His watch care.
Numbers 25:10-13: the LORD tells Moses that Phinehas will be remembered and that their reward is a “lasting priesthood”
Isaiah 54:9-10: the covenant keeping is from the LORD and is one that can never be removed
Ezekiel 34:25-26: the covenant is one that will have a shepherd and a king; for this prophecy to occur there would need to come someone who would fulfill the first promise made by God to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15
Ezekiel 37:24-28: the peace that Jehovah Shalom brings will ultimately result in the Prince of Peace and prophecy fulfilled.
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them.….and the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.
Psalm 29:11:
The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.
APPLICATION:
- How has Jehovah Shalom been watching over me and my loved ones?
- Write out on a card, three areas of my life where I am seeing God’s care and place the card where I can see it each day this week, taking time to thank Him for His tender, loving care.
