JEHOVAH JIREH (Raah) - The LORD Who Provides - Week Three
The story of Samuel as found in I Samuel 16:1b-3 tells us more about the LORD who provides:
Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons. But Samuel said, ‘How can I go? When Saul hears of it, he will kill me.’ And the LORD said, ‘Take a heifer with you and say, “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.” ‘You shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice and I will show you what you shall do, and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you.’
The LORD who provides told Samuel to go even though Saul, the present king of Israel, had been rejected by the LORD (v. 1)
Samuel would need to exercise his faith in this command of the LORD. In this exercise of faith, Samuel would see that the LORD had indeed already provided for the next king of Israel.
Samuel was a prophet of honor because of his willing obedience to the call of the LORD in each circumstance with which he was challenged. (I Samuel 8:10; 9:15; 15:10)
APPLICATION:The Lord challenges His people who are willing to obey.
- What might the Lord be challenging me in today, in which He is asking for my obedience?
- Samuel was a prophet of honor. How can I honor the Lord in my life at this present time?
