JEHOVAH SABAOTH - The LORD of Hosts - Week 2
From I Samuel 1:3, we saw Elkanah go to worship Jehovah Sabaoth. This week we will see his wife, Hannah, pray earnestly to this same Jehovah Sabaoth.
Hannah was a woman of prayer. Yearly she would go to the place of worship to seek the LORD. One year, as she was doing this, the time came for her to get serious about her "prayer".
She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly. She made a vow and said, ‘O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.’ I Samuel 1:10-11
At the time Hannah came on the scene, there was no ruler-ship in the nation of Israel. The King of Israel was JEHOVAH Sabaoth, and it was to Him that she prayed concerning her great sorrow of not having a child.
We see that JEHOVAH Sabaoth did indeed answer her request (I Samuel 1:19-20). Hannah had been ready for “heart prayer” and acted upon it, resulting in blessing.
JEHOVAH Sabaoth remains the King and Defender today for all Believers.
APPLICATION:
- How confident am I in my prayers to JEHOVAH Sabaoth?
- What might be hindering me from approaching the Throne of Grace today? (Hebrews 4:16)
- How serious am I in heart-felt desire to hear from the LORD?
