Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JANUARY - WEEK THREE
Book of the Bible: Leviticus Theme of the Book: The Law is Given Learning How to Approach and Fellowship with God Main Character(s): Moses and Aaron The “Red Thread”: The sacrifices needed to atone for sin would be a reminder to this nation of the need for a "once for all" sacrifice Messiah. The holiness of God points to man's sin and need for cleansing.
Key Verses: Leviticus 1:3 and 19:2
If his offering is a burnt offering of the herd, he shall offer it a male without defect….that he may be accepted before the LORD.
Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.'
APPLICATION: The Law is perfect. God is perfect. We are sinful. Today we have the full story revealed in Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Jesus paid our sin debt.
- Am I one of the redeemed, or am I trying to work my way to Heaven?
- Just as the sacrifice had to be “without defect”, can any person ever be perfect enough to attain Heaven on their own?
- If I have accepted Jesus’ payment for my sins, name at least two things I have done within the past 24 hrs. that demonstrated God’s holiness in me.
