Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
JANUARY - WEEK FOUR
Book of the Bible: Numbers Theme of the Book: A Wandering in the Wilderness Yet God Remains Faithful Main Character(s): Nation of Israel, Moses, Aaron Joshua and Caleb The “Red Thread”: The Israelites sinned and caused heartache over and over again. God judged them, punishing their rebellion. In one such incident, Moses was told by God to erect a fiery serpent on a "standard" (cross of that day), and for those who looked upon it there would be healing. This was a sign of Christ, who would one day be erected on a cross for man's sin.
Key Verses: Numbers 21:8
Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.
APPLICATION: Wandering thoughts and wandering actions can lead to sin, just as the Israelites suffered.
- What wandering thoughts or actions have I been experiencing in my
life that I need to confess to God, asking for His purification?
