Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010
The Red Thread Series

A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.

FEBRUARY - WEEK TWO

Book of the Bible:  Joshua
Theme of the Book:  God's covenant promise of land is fulfilled; God is Faithful
Main Character(s):  Joshua
The “Red Thread”:  The name Yeshua represents Joshua's Hebrew name; the meaning of Yeshua is Salvation and can also be translated Jesus. Joshua would receive a vision of a "Commander of the host of the Lord" in Joshua 5:14.

Key Verses:  Joshua 5:13-15

Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho,
that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold,
a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand,
and Joshua went to him and said to him, 'Are you for us or for our adversaries?' He said, 'No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD.'
And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, 'What has my lord to say to his servant?'
The captain of the LORD'S host said to Joshua,
'Remove your sandals from your feet,
for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.

APPLICATION:
Joshua's LORD led him through all his battles to win the land of promise.
God was faithful.
  • What battle am I fighting that needs the Lord’s guiding hand today? Joshua worshiped his Captain.
  • How am I honoring the Lord today?
