Women In Discipleship
Weekly Devotional – 2010
The Red Thread Series

A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.

MARCH - WEEK FIVE

Book of the Bible:  Nehemiah
Theme of the Book:  Repairing the Walls - Leadership
Main Character(s):  Nehemiah, Ezra, Sanballat, Tobiah
The “Red Thread”:  The city of Jerusalem is rebuilt; the people now await the promised King of the Jews who will complete the restoration process for all time.

Key Verses:  (Nehemiah's prayer of Remembrance and Hope)
Nehemiah 1: 8 and 18a

Remember the words which Thou didst command Thy servant Moses, saying,
If you are unfaithful I will scatter you among the people;
but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them,
though those of you who have been scattered
were in the most remote part of the heavens,
I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place
where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.

God’s answer to Nehemiah:
And I told them how the hand of my God had been favorable to me,
and also about the king’s words which he had spoken to me ...

APPLICATION:
Nehemiah was a man of prayer and confession. He called upon the LORD in his time of sorrow. His prayer was filled with weeping and mourning and recognized "Awesome God" (v.5)
  • How heartfelt are my prayers?
Ezra read the Word of God to the people in Nehemiah 8.

  • Is the reading of God’s Word a part of my prayer life?
