Weekly Devotional – 2010 The Red Thread Series
A wonderful “Red Thread” of salvation runs throughout the Bible, and each week we are looking at a different book of the Bible to see that Thread that leads to Jesus and God's perfect plan for redeeming mankind to Himself.
MAY - WEEK TWO
Book of the Bible: Song of Solomon Theme of the Book: A God Honoring Marriage Relationship Main Character(s): King Solomon, The Shulamite woman The “Red Thread”: From the Old Testament, in the painting of the picture of marriage, we see a parallel to that of the spiritual relationship of God with the nation of Israel. From the New Testament we see Christ and the Church portrayed as Bridegroom and Bride. (Ephesians 5:32).
Key Verses: Song of Solomon 8:6
Put me like a seal over your heart, Like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, Jealousy is as severe as Sheol; Its flashes are flashes of fire, The very flame of the LORD.
APPLICATION: The Song of Solomon, when read from a historical poetic setting, is a lovely read, especially for those who are in a marriage union filled with mutual love, respect and harmony.
- Have I taken the time to read this courtship and wedding celebration? (dated around 971 B.C.)
- If I am married, have I taken the time to read this together with my husband or wife?
- How can this Song encourage all of us in the preparation of the Marriage feast to come in the Eternal Kingdom?
